Winery notes (2015 Vintage)
"Church Road Grand Reserve wines are produced only in great vintages. The very best low-cropping vineyard blocks are targeted for selective hand harvesting to give wines with the greatest possible flavour, depth and concentration. In the winery these wines are made using small batch, traditional winemaking techniques that emphasise texture, structure and subtle complexity, while still letting the fruit shine through.

On the nose, a core of dark berry fruit is overlaid with fragrant violet, rose, exotic spice and hints of cracked pepper whilst subtle, savoury oak adds complexity and a chocolate-like richness. The palate is full but finely structured with excellent persistence and focus coming from balanced acidity and ripe tannin."
5 Stars & Top 5 Cuisine Syrah Tasting, July 2017 (2015 Vintage)
"A glass-staining, deeply coloured young syrah, Church Road’s 2015 Grand Reserve is a very powerful, concentrated drop indeed. Blackberry, clove, walnut, vanilla and slightly camphory aromas make a complex introduction. It’s mouth-filling, opulent and ripe with great length of flavour, and a firm backbone."
5 Stars & 95/100 Bob Campbell MW, The Real Review (2015 Vintage)
"Soft, rich and accessible with plum, dark berry, dark chocolate, mocha, black pepper and liquorice/anise flavours, with a suggestion of fresh herbs. Smooth, sugar-coated tannins provide plenty of structure and potential longevity. Perhaps not quite up to the standard of the previous vintage but an impressive wine nonetheless, which will do no harm to the reputation of Grand Reserve."
5 Stars Michael Cooper (2015 Vintage)
"Full of potential, the 2015 vintage is a rich, sturdy red, grown in the Bridge Pa Triangle and the Gimblett Gravels, matured for 17 months in French (mostly) and Hungarian oak barriques (34 per cent new), and bottled unfiltered. Powerful yet elegant, it is still very youthful, with dense plum and black-pepper flavours, finely integrated oak, good tannin backbone and a highly fragrant, spicy bouquet."
95/100 Decanter 2017 (2015 Vintage)
"Lavender, black olive, leather and plum nose with flavours of wild cherry and white pepper. It’s ripe but fresh, convivial but lengthy, with a lingering, chalky finish."
Sue Courtney, wineoftheweek.com (2015 Vintage)
"There’s a youthful vibrancy to the purple red hue; the brooding berry fruit bouquet has a hint of dried fennel seed together with a hint of gun smoke and mocha wafting through. Mouthfilling and firm in the harmonious palate with signature pepper and an array of intriguing warm sweet spices infusing the juicy blackberry fruit flavours together with rose petal, sweet leather, a suggestion of chocolate dust and anise."
