"Framed in new French oak, the 2015 ‘Reserve Vintage’ Cabernet / Merlot is full of blackberry, toast, leather, dried herbs and subtle spice. The palate is elegant and complex with a long finish, it is a classic Bordeaux blend which will reward cellaring. The impact of the LC10 clone is exciting. It is many years since Brookfields has made four Reserve ‘Gold Label’ Cabernet / Merlot’s consecutively - it bodes well for the future!"

"Brookfields' top red is one of the most powerful, long-lived reds in Hawke's Bay. At its best, it is a thrilling wine – robust, tannin-laden and overflowing with very rich cassis, plum and mint flavours. The grapes are sourced from the Lyons family's sloping, north-facing vineyard at Bridge Pa, and the wine is matured a year in new French oak barriques. The 2015 vintage is deeply coloured, fragrant and rich, with mouthfilling body, concentrated blackcurrant, plum, spice and nut flavours, oak complexity and fine-grained tannins. Still very youthful, it should be at its best 2019+."

"Dark, deep, black-red colour with slight purple hues on the rim. The nose is fine in proportion with youthfully primary fruit aromas of ripe blackberries and blackcurrants unfolding layers of plum, dark herbs and cassis, along with fragrant redcurrant notes and fine, aromatic, pencilly oak. Medium-full bodied, rich, juicy and lusciously sweet fruit flavours of ripe blackberries and blackcurrants show with dark herbs and pencilly oak. The fruit is supported by considerable tannin extraction and structure with fine-grained powdery textures that allow the fruit sweetness to prevail. The acidity is balanced and adds to the fruit richness and freshness. As the wine flows, spicy, nutty and pencilly oak notes emerge to add a degree of decadence. The structure carries the wine to a sustained, rich and sweet-fruited, textural finish. This is a rich-fruited Cabernet/Merlot blend with sweet primary blackberry and blackcurranty fruit and plenty of structure and new oak. Match with roast lamb, beef and venison over the next 10+ years. Better known as the ‘Gold Label’, this is the Brookfields’ flagship. A blend of 80% clone LC10 Cabernet Sauvignon from the ‘Ohiti’ estate and 20% clone 481 Merlot from the Tuki Tuki valley, fermented to 14.0% alc., the wine a year in predominantly new French oak barrels."

"Blackberry, dark plum, toasty oak, tobacco and graphite like mineral tones, fruity, masculine, quite bold and forward. On the palate – dry, fruity, oaky and chewy with flavours of dark berries, baked plum, chocolate and toast. Some marmite-like suggestions and a return of the tobacco note. Plenty of tannins and medium+ acidity, some vegetal bell-pepper flavours and hay. Ripe, balanced and well made. Drink now if decanted and through 2030 if cellared correctly."
