Winery notes (2015 Vintage)
"Brilliant deep purple in colour, this wine displays complex aromas of sweet ripe red berry fruits with star anise, cinnamon spices and floral nuances. Although elegant and supple, this wine shows remarkable power, intensity and length on the palate. Framed by ripe, moderate tannin, the graceful sweet strawberry fruit is complemented but not dominated by spice. Overall the wine has wonderful poise and balance with remarkable length of flavour as all great Pinot Noirs should."
96/100 James Halliday's Wine Companion, September 2016 (2015 Vintage)
"Hand-picked from the Derwent River and Coal River valleys of southern Tasmania. The vivid, deep crimson-purple hue is typical of Bay of Fires, and sets the antennae waving furiously. The transition from the bouquet to the palate is seamless and utterly coherent, with black cherry fruit peppered with spicy nuances, French oak doing its duty, but no more. The future of this wine is gilt-edged, with a bare minimum span of 10 years. Drink by: 2026."

94/100 Campbell Mattinson, The Wine Front, March 2017 (2015 Vintage)
"Bay of Fires Pinot Noir is grown on many different Tasmanian vineyards across the Derwent Valley, Coal River and East Coast areas of the state. It’s made by Penny Jones, who’s been making wine at Bay of Fires since 2013. She’s nailed this one. It’s a pretty impressive pinot noir. It has that extra something. In all honesty I don’t get excited over a lot of Tasmanian pinot noir, with exceptions of course, and this is one of the latter. You’d call it sweet-sour but in such a harmonious way. Sweet spices abound, tending into sweet woodsmoke and chicory, but the fruit sweeps these characters along; there’s no naval gazing here, it’s a pinot noir of movement and energy; as a wine it’s a dancer not a writer. And yet complexity, it has plenty. You’re on a sure thing here."
