A perfumed and vibrant expression of Nebbiolo from Vietti. This wine has classic floral and tobacco characters wrapped in a palate that's powerful but approachable. Drink this and keep your Barolo in the cellar till it's ready. Incredibly, the Perbacco is made largely of fruit from Cru vineyards in Barolo and Barbaresco. Superb value for wine of this calibre.
They made wine here back in the 1800s, but it was not until 1919 that Mario Vietti turned the family farm to viticulture and Vietti labels first appeared on the Italian market. The winery grew through the 1950’s, when new export markets opened and Mario’s daughter and son in law Alfredo Currado pioneered what was later to become a defining regional idea – single vineyard Barolo and Barbaresco. Today Vietti remain a towering name, with a portfolio occupying the top tier in most Piedmontese categories – particularly their profoundly important expressions of Cru Barolo.
Winery notes (2023 Vintage)
"Fruity with hints of mint, spices and candy. Round and elegant tannins add to a long and refined finish. Robust, intense, and powerful in its youth while complex and elegant with aging."
Antonio Galloni, Vinous.com (2023 Vintage)
"The 2023 Langhe Nebbiolo Perbacco is a fine entry-level wine in this range. Crushed red berry fruit, chalk, mint, white pepper and orange peel give the 2023 lovely aromatic top notes. This is the first vintage that includes a newly acquired parcel on the lower part of Ravera. As is so often the case, the Vietti Langhe Nebbiolo is very much a mini Barbaresco."
90/100 Jeb Dunnuck (2023 Vintage)
"The 2023 Langhe Nebbiolo Perbacco pours a transparent red hue and offers delicate aromas of spiced cherries, cranberries, dried herbs, and dusty earth. Medium-bodied, it is approachable now but still shows savoury depth and a gentle mineral richness through the finish. The wine includes younger fruit from Ravera and Novello in this vintage and was aged roughly 18 months in barrique and large cask."
