Based in the Langhe hills of Piedmont, G. D. Vajra produces Coste di Rose from Nebbiolo grown on calcareous marl soils in a historic Barolo vineyard known for aromatic precision. Fermentation takes place with indigenous yeasts followed by extended ageing in large oak casks to develop structure while maintaining freshness. The balanced 2018 vintage delivered both elegance and finesse. Compared with the warmer 2017 vintage, this release shows slightly greater freshness, combining red cherry, floral notes and subtle spice with refined tannins and long mineral finish typical of this elegant Barolo cru.

"Coste di Rose is one of Barolo’s best kept secrets. It is located on a steep slope, hidden from the village, that rises from Bosco della Fava and descends swiftly towards Monforte d’Alba. A dune of pure sandstone with a unique soil composition that marks Barolo DOCG Coste di Rose with its distinctive character: tones of cherry and rose petals, mint and sweet spices, a silky tannin and a juicy sip."

"A cooler site, but steep with soils that drain quickly. In terms of drinking pleasure and style, maybe my favourite wine from Vajra in 2018. Dark red fruits, liquorice root, tea and chamomile, slightly earthy. Medium to full-bodied, a little chew, dark raspberry and fine mouth-perfume, a subtle sandy feel to tannin on the long finish. A very good wine here. Finesse and charm. Really like it."

"With fruit from above the village of Barolo, the G.D. Vajra 2018 Barolo Coste di Rose shows a large aromatic scope and ample substance. This vineyard is characterized by very high density Diano sandstone (typical of the area), which explains the wine’s bigger sensorial impact. Its texture is velvety and smooth, and the wine offers lots of purple and red fruits with soft earth and perfumed flower. The vintage is open knit and broad in scope, perhaps lacking some of the brilliant focus you get in the cooler years."
