The “Usignolo” is crafted to highlight a fresh, youthful expression of Nebbiolo, rather than the more structured, cellar-bound style often associated with Barolo or Barbaresco. In fact, the fruit is sourced from the Rio Sordo cru in Barbaresco, giving this wine a bit of a “baby Barbaresco” feel, all the pedigree and elegance in a more approachable, drink-now style.
Aromatically it opens with dried flowers, ripe berry and plum, followed by subtle hints of pepper and exotic spice. On the palate, the wine shows the classic Nebbiolo tension we adore: bright acidity, fine-grained tannins, and a lively core of tart cherry and red fruit that keeps the wine energetic from start to finish. There is a real sense of lift and finesse here, with that floral, mineral edge that speaks clearly to its Barbaresco origins.
Grapes are grown in the Langhe hills on clay and limestone soils, in vineyards around 300 meters of elevation, and fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel with about twelve days on the skins. Aging takes place primarily in concrete, allowing the wine to develop texture while keeping the fruit pure and expressive.
