Winery notes (2022 Vintage)
"This vintage marks the first release of a Land Series Pinot Noir from Northburn. The lowers slopes of our Northburn vineyard are home to this block. Eroded glacial fans are overlaid with organic matter and are some of the richest soils on the site, with shelter from the prevailing Northerly winds creating ideal growing conditions for rich, complex Pinot Noir.
Concentrated and intense, with a sweet fruit core surrounded by dark, brooding tannins, warm spicy oak and herbal notes. This wine is complex and rewarding. Hand harvested and fully destemmed. Long, gentle extraction with minimal plunging of the skins and extended barrel maturation over 14 months helped to build mid palate texture and integrated tannins."
DWWA Judges' Comments (2022 Vintage)
"A melange of black cherries, plums, violets and dried herbs in a frame of graphite tannins and silky structure, with a disarming spice note to end."
94/100 Emma Jenkins MW, Decanter UK, October 2024 (2022 Vintage)
"Cherries, red plums, hints of bacon fat and dark cocoa, wild thyme and allspice. A little shy but supple, with smooth tannins and generous, savoury fruit. Taut tannins but softer around the edges. The fruit for the Northburn comes from the sheltered first block they planted in 2016, on generally rich soils of deep glacial outwash and silt."
