The 2025 La Collina Syrah is not simply an outstanding Hawke’s Bay release. It is being hailed as truly great in a global Syrah context and stands among the finest wines ever produced in New Zealand.
From a tiny, low yielding vintage and crafted with 100% whole bunch fermentation, it reveals soaring aromatics of damson plum, blood orange, cracked black pepper and exotic spice, layered with crushed rock minerality and carried by seamless, velvety tannins.
Thrilling to drink now and built to cellar for 15 to 20 years. Rare. Collectable. A defining New Zealand Syrah.
If you want to own one of New Zealand’s modern classics, now is the time. Secure your bottles before they are gone.
Winery notes (2025 Vintage)
"2025 was an extremely unique and fantastic vintage for both Chardonnay and Syrah; perhaps one of the very best of 30 years of growing and making wine in Hawke's Bay. A very forgiving spring and early summer with no significant frost events, exceptional flowering and a dry and cool but very sunny summer. So cool (or not hot…) in fact that we did not record one day over 30oC throughout the entire season however, there were very many cloudless days in the Goldilocks zone of 20 to 30oC together with generally cool nights.
As always the fruit was hand harvested in perfect condition and this again allowed for 100% whole bunch fermentation. The wine was fermented in open top fermentation vessels with gentle plunging once a day, pressed at dryness and transferred to barriques for malolactic fermentation and subsequent élevage.
Our aim always is to produce a wine that shows the excitement of Hawke’s Bay hillside Syrah. The 2025 la collina is another great example of this; spice, brambly and berry fruits with structure, length, velvety tannins and drinkability but still with the ability to age.
This is a great wine to enjoy now but will live for many years in your cellar. Cellar some and enjoy again, and again, over the next 15 – 20 years."

"Full-bodied with a superb depth of fruit that seems impossible to replicate in New Zealand, with such structure and length. Speechless. Find some."
97+/100 Dave Brookes, James Halliday's Wine Companion (2025 Vintage)
"A spectacular wine from one of New Zealand's great sites, the La Collina vineyard. The wine opens with a complex bouquet of dark damson plum and black fruits flecked with raspberry over hints of cracked black pepper, pan juices, dried citrus rind, lavender, cold tea and crushed rocks and minerals. The palate is wonderfully focused and graceful, balancing perfectly weighted, pure fruit, deep, savoury spice, and rose petal/violet top notes with a fine seam of lacy acidity. Silky, kinetic pumice stone tannins carry the wine effortlessly into a long, persistent finish. There is nothing out of place here, and it is a wine that engages your entire olfactory field of view. Bravo."
