Gold Medal – Mundus Vini
A broad complex nose shows notes of forest berries, licorice and cumin with mineral notes of graphite. A textural and voluminous wine with unusual power and personality that sets a new benchmark for what Montepulciano d’Abruzzo can produce.
Winery notes (2018 Vintage)
"The name originates from the splendid Abbey of San Clemente a Casauria, proclaimed an Italian national monument since 1894. In 872 it housed the relics of the fourth Pontiff, Pope Clement I, depicted on the label.
The grapes used come from the historic San Clemente “single Vineyard” located in the beautiful Casauria Valley. The soils, owned by the estate, are of medium texture tending to clay with southern exposure. The Casauria valley is characterized by constant year-round ventilation and good temperature ranges between night and day.
Deep red colour with purplish highlights. The aromatic panorama is broad, with immediate floral scents of rose and fruity aromas of berries (especially blueberry jam), followed by the spicy notes of licorice, cumin, white pepper and the mineral ones of graphite sweeping the horizon. The sip is decidedly textural and voluminous, though dynamic and endowed with a gustatory rhythm dictated by vital tannins and vibrant freshness."

"The Terre di Casauria Riserva San Clemente 2018 opens with a mentholated blend of plum sauce, sage and dusty earth. On the palate, it is elegant and polished, with juicy red and blue fruits that fade into savoury herbs and exotic spices. The 2018 tapers off long and structured. A hint of violets and lavender calls the taster back to the glass."

"This Montepulciano d'Abruzzo is one of the best we have ever tasted. Concentrated ruby red in colour, its nose and taste are characterised by a wonderful balance between fruit components and oak spice. A compact, elegant and very balanced red with a rich finish. Perfect!"
