Winery notes (2011 Vintage)
"Attractive Sémillon aromas and rich concentration are accompanied by intense Noble Botrytis characters of guava, mango and dried fruits. The palate is characteristically mouthfilling displaying an array of citrus varietal fruit flavours, root ginger and honeyed botrytis nuances. This intensely flavoured wine exhibits a finely balanced acidity and will gain further complexity and integration with careful cellaring.
Located on the southern boundary of the central valley floor in the Wairau Valley, the Longfield Vineyard is characterised by clay and loam based soils. Pruned to balance the site naturally it exhibits concentrated fruit and is encouraged to develop botrytis early. With careful late season management, the fruit is harvested after the botrytis has drawn much of the berries’ moisture, concentrating sugar, acid and flavour."
5 Stars Michael Cooper (2011 Vintage)
"Grown in the Longfield Vineyard, in the Wairau Valley, the 2011 vintage is a golden, honey-sweet wine (190 grams/litre of residual sugar), handled without oak. It shows a powerful botrytis influence, with rich, peachy, rounded flavours, showing lovely poise and depth. Liquid honey."
5 Stars & Top 5 Cuisine NZ Dessert Wines Tasting 2013 (2011 Vintage)
"This sublime expression triggered comparisons with Sauternes, France’s great botrytised semillon. Gorgeous scents (lanolin and honey) pave the way to a rich, ambrosia-like mouthful. Its depth, seamless purity and length are all exemplary. The classic Sauternes food match also applies here: the luxurious foie gras."
