Produced by New Zealand's Champion producer of Chardonnays. The 2024 vintage is an excellent follow up to the previous award winning vintages. It offers incredible amounts of Chardonnay satisfaction for very few dollars. Every year the Villa Maria Cellar Selection Hawkes Bay Chardonnay comes through with the goodies.
Winery notes (2024 Vintage)
"Classically Hawkes Bay in style, this Chardonnay reveals a fragrant nose of sweet lemon and peach, with aromas of grilled nuts from subtle French oak. A rich yet supple texture unfolds in the mouth with layers of fruit, delicate oak spice and a creamy palate finishing with succulent acidity.
The 2024 Hawke's Bay vintage was excellent with the Chardonnay fruit being harvested in perfect condition in late February and early March. The warm summer growing season gave us full-flavoured Chardonnay with refreshing natural acidity.
Fruit from several prestigious Chardonnay vineyards throughout Hawkes Bay feature in this wine. Once harvested and pressed the resulting juice was fermented in a mixture of Oak barriques and tank with a combination of inoculated and wild yeast. Malolactic fermentation has added weight to the mid palate. Maturation on full yeast lees with regular stirring followed in barrel and tank prior to the wine being blended and bottled."
4 Stars & Best Buy Cuisine Chardonnay Tasting, August 2025 (2024 Vintage)
"Understated on the nose with white nectarine and citrus aromas and just a hint of oak on the nose and through the palate matched with fresh-baked brioche flavours. A nicely balanced and well-made wine that is fantastic value."
89/100 Cameron Douglas MS, September 2025 (2024 Vintage)
"Flavours of fresh white and yellow peach, red apple with a very mild layer of wood smoke and spice then a stony earthy quality. A silky touch as the wine invades the palate, flavours of stone and tree fruits led by peach and apple then a grapefruit peel suggestion. Balanced, well made and ready to drink from 2025 through 2028+."

5 Stars & 93/100 Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, February 2022 (2021 Vintage)
"Gorgeously fruited and immediately appealing with golden peach, fig, vanillin oak and brioche characters, it's succulent and supple in the mouth displaying excellent weight and persistency. Beautifully rounded and creamy with a lengthy flavoursome finish. At its best: now to 2025."
4 Stars Michael Cooper (2021 Vintage)
"Typically a great buy. The 2021 vintage was fermented and lees-aged for nine months in oak barriques (14 per cent new). It has a fragrant, slightly smoky bouquet, leading into a mouthfilling wine with fresh, generous, peachy flavours and savoury notes adding complexity. Best drinking mid-2023+."
