A new label for this bright and expressive Barbera that was previously called Tre Vigne. Vietti have a pre-eminence in this variety and the use of Barolo vineyards adds to the style's natural generosity. From old vine sites in Castiglione Falletto, Monforte d’Alba and La Morra on limestone clay-rich soil. With lovely ripe fruit and full structure, this is a very satisfying Piedmont red for the price.
They made wine here back in the 1800s, but it was not until 1919 that Mario Vietti turned the family farm to viticulture and Vietti labels first appeared on the Italian market. The winery grew through the 1950’s, when new export markets opened and Mario’s daughter and son in law Alfredo Currado pioneered what was later to become a defining regional idea – single vineyard Barolo and Barbaresco. Today Vietti remain a towering name, with a portfolio occupying the top tier in most Piedmontese categories – particularly their profoundly important expressions of Cru Barolo.
Winery notes (2022 Vintage)
"The grapes are selected from vineyards located in Castiglione Falletto, Monforte d’Alba, La Morra and other few villages in the Langhe region, with a limestone-clay soil. The average density is about 4,500 plants per hectare, trained with the Guyot system. The age of the vines varies from 28 to 43-year-old.
Ruby red colour with ripe red cherry and vanilla aromas. Notes of violets and rounder body compared to Barbera d’Asti Trevìe. On the palate it shows bright acidity, sweet tannins with balanced integration of oak. Good complexity and a lingering cherry finish."
92/100 Antonio Galloni, Vinous.com (2022 Vintage)
"The 2022 Barbera d'Alba Trevie is a heady, explosive wine. Succulent dark red cherry, plum, mocha, pomegranate, mocha and new leather are amplified to the maximum. This fleshy, opulent Barbera packs a serious punch yet also retains a good deal of freshness. It’s a superb wine from Vietti."
