The ocean-breeze-cooled Margaret River is Australia's finest wine region. Here, Virginia Willcock, one of the most awarded winemakers in Australia, makes this delicious Cabernet-Merlot blend. Expect excellently woven hints of plum, mocha and cedar.

Winery notes (2022 Vintage)
"‘Son of’ the Vasse Felix Cabernet Sauvignon. This regional blend incorporates more opulent fruit from each of the Vasse Felix Vineyards. Generous portions of Merlot contribute to a succulent wine with approachable tannins.

An elegant perfume of blackcurrant jam, raspberry pip and a hint of forest tree bark. Savoury notes of fresh focaccia with sundried tomatoes, dusty rosemary and traces of hot wet stone round out the fine fruit aroma. Deliciously soft and creamy with bright fruit and medium palate weight, it finishes fragrant, dry and powdery."

Rated Excellent & 94/100 Cameron Douglas MS, October 2024 (2022 Vintage)
"Great colour and aromatic intensity with dark berries and a hay, dried herb signature. The core scent within the bouquet is that of stones and clay then fruit and wood. Excellent weight and intensity on the palate with core flavours reflecting the bouquet, there’s an abundance of tannins and acidity supported by core fruit flavours of berries and plums, wood spices and some earth smoke qualities. Well made, complex, dry and lengthy. A wine that is still very youthful needing cellar time to bring together all the attributes. Best from 2028 through 2036+."

Founded in 1967 by Dr. Tom Cullity, Vasse Felix holds the distinction of being Margaret River's first wine estate. Dr. Cullity, a respected Cardiologist, was inspired by his European travels to pursue his passion for winemaking. He was guided by the research of Dr. John Gladstones and Professor Harold Olmo, which pointed to the Margaret River region as an ideal location for crafting fine wines. Despite initial skepticism from the local community, Cullity established a small winemaking facility and produced the region's first commercial wines.

The name "Vasse Felix" was chosen by Cullity as a tribute to Thomas Timothèe Vasse, an Assistant Helmsman from the Baudin Expedition who disappeared in 1801. He hoped to bring a happier fate to his vineyard, as 'felix' means happy or lucky in Latin.

The Peregrine Falcon on the label commemorates an unsuccessful attempt at falconry during the first vintage in 1971 to protect the grapes from native birds. The falcon, when released, flew into the forest and never returned.

The winery's enduring philosophy, set by its founder, is to produce the "best possible wine." Today, the estate continues to focus on its key varieties, including Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay.
