Winery notes (2018 Vintage)
"Textbook modern, medium bodied Hunter Valley Chardonnay that can be enjoyed with a variety of cuisines. The nose shows a great mixture of citrus, white stone fruit, some oak spice as well as just a hint of solids complexity. The palate is medium-bodied with great fruit intensity and texture through the mid-palate, with soft acid on the finish. Sourced from a small selection of our favourite Chardonnay blocks, the grapes were both hand and machine picked before gentle pressing and fermentation. The wine was matured in new and older French oak barriques, and spent all of this time on yeast lees to give the palate added complexity and texture. "
93/100 Nicks.com.au, January 2020 (2018 Vintage)
"This is the baby brother to Tyrrell’s famous Vat 47 Chardonnay. Matured in new and older French oak barriques on yeast lees for 8 months.
Brilliant very pale straw colour with a distinctive tinge of green around the edges and a watery hue. Aromas of nectarine and citrus meet up with faint dried honey, oily toast like characters and spice. Rich white peach, dried honey and nectarine flavours have a creamy feel with oily toast and spice characters emerging in the background. Finishes dry and fresh with a medium to long aftertaste.
Drink over the next 3-4 years."
91/100 Campbell Mattinson, The Wine Front, January 2020 (2018 Vintage)
"Flint and funk meet custard and peach. It has a bit of edge and a good deal of flavour. Good option."

5 Stars & 93/100 Sam Kim, Wine Orbit (2014 Vintage)
"A wonderfully expressive and beautifully ripe, the bouquet shows nectarine, rockmelon, ripe citrus, vanilla and cedar characters. The palate delivers excellent fruit weight and rich texture, brilliantly structured by juicy acidity. The wine is silky, creamy and rounded, and offers loads of tasty flavours. At its best: now to 2020."
90/100 Gary Walsh, The Wine Front (2014 Vintage)
"Peach, mixed citrus, gentle vanilla and cedar oak and some wheatgerm. Medium bodied, juicy fruit, but with some restraint, limey acidity offset with a dab of cream and almond. Good length. Acid freshens the aftertaste, but does not twang. This is nicely done: meets the modern and traditional schools of Hunter Chardonnay in the middle playground."
90/100 James Halliday (2014 Vintage)
"Matured in new and used French barriques. Quite how Tyrrell’s can invest Hunter Valley chardonnay at this alcohol level with such fresh drive is doubtless secret Tyrrell’s business, and more power to the winemaking team. What matters is the wine in the glass, standing ready to fulfil any role assigned to it, fruit and oak symbiotically entwined."
