Trinity Hill The Gimblett is one of our favourite Hawkes Bay Bordeaux variety blends. This label always offers plenty, even more from the excellent 2022 vintage, and we consider it to be incredible value. Cabernet Franc and Tempranillo make up the majority of the blend this year and followers of the label will be well pleased as it has all the depth and richness we have come to expect. This will age beautifully so get some into your cellar today!

"Complex aromas of brambly blackcurrants, plums and coffee grounds intermingled with hints of dried herbs, chocolate and sweet spices. e palate is intense and generous, framed with ne grained tannins and juicy acidity, which combine to produce a succulent, supple, textural wine with the structure and capacity to develop further complexity over the next 10-20 years.

Each variety was hand-harvested from individual blocks from the Gimblett Stones vineyard, with the various clones de-stemmed and fermented separately. All parcels were gently hand plunged once daily, to aid optimum colour, with gentle tannin extraction; then pressed and matured in 225-litre French oak barriques (32% new), for up to 18 months before being blended and then aged a further 6 months in a 5000L Oak Oval before bottling in July 2025."

"Made with Cabernet Franc, and Tempranillo the bouquet excellent with a core of blackberry and dark olive, raspberry and echoes of gravel stony soil layers then barrel spice and a touch of wood smoke. Youthful, tense and complex. On the palate the youth of the bouquet is proven with a taut, tense and poised wine. Firm tannins and plenty of acidity locks in the tension and core fruit flavours, oak spices and olive, non-fruit complexities. Lengthy with best drinking from 2028 through 2035+."

"If structure and weight woo your tastebuds in, The Gimblett rises in stature every vintage as a top pick from Hawke’s Bay. This year is one of my absolute faves and the blend is the reason why; it’s 80% Cabernet Franc and 20% Tempranillo, both of which combine in adding depth of perfumed dark fruit and a soft smooth, plump rounded mouthfeel. It spent 24 months in French oak, 32% new."

"The 2022 The Gimblett comprises 80% Cabernet Franc and the balance Tempranillo. It's an unusual pairing here in the land of more traditionally styled Bordeaux blends. On the nose, the wine leads with silky red fruits, loads of abundantly drying tannin, crushed rocks, pressed incense, dried spices and purple fruit. The wine feels distinctly Mediterranean and would pair well with olive tapenade and deli meats."
