The Teusner Avatar GMS 2022 is an outstanding example of the art of blending Grenache, Mataro and Shiraz in the Barossa Valley.
The grapes come from old vines that have been cultivated for generations by the Riebke brothers and other renowned winemakers. The name ‘Avatar’, loosely translated as ‘transformation’, reflects the changeable nature of this wine, whose composition varies depending on the vintage, but always offers a harmonious balance of spicy, fruity and earthy notes.
The ageing in oak barrels gives the wine a subtle spiciness and complex nuances, while the old vines express the purity and authenticity of the terroir.
The Teusner Avatar GMS 2022 is a true masterpiece that captures the essence of the Barossa Valley in every bottle.
Winery notes (2022 Vintage)
"Whilst Shiraz might be the poster boy for the Barossa, we believe blending it with Grenache and Mataro produces the best drinking wines from this region. Thanks to our good mates the Riebke brothers and other Barossa growers whose families have stuck by these varieties for the past 100 years or more, we’re privileged to have fruit from very old vines to make our GMS blends."
97/100 James Halliday's Wine Companion (2022 Vintage)
"A blend of old-vine grenache, mataro and shiraz; matured in used oak to throw all the focus on the fruits and their freshness, coupled with the second great vintage conditions in a row after ’21. Irresistible."
5 Stars & 96/100 Stuart Knox, The Real Review (2022 Vintage)
"Deep ruby core to a purple rim. Ripe mulberry, teriyaki and crushed violets aromas build and lift from the glass. Medium to full bodied with a serious intensity of dark fruit in the core. Dark spices, crushed gravel and meaty hints are all melded into seamless package that flows incredibly long, thanks to powerful, yet finest of grain tannins that carry on for almost an eternity."
93/100 Campbell Mattinson, The Wine Front, November 2024 (2022 Vintage)
"This is a particularly ferrous version of Avatar. It tastes of plum, earth, peppercorns and raspberry, but it’s the licorices-shot ferrous notes that really define its flavour profile. It’s well balanced in general and feels fresh and juicy, though there’s more than enough flavour to satisfy. There’s good linger to the finish too. It’s another very good release."
