Vineyard of the Year – New Zealand Organic Wine Awards 2025
This wine is absolutely delicious. The Chapman family's organic vineyard on the Glasnevin gravels of Waipara has had some serious recognition recently and was awarded the Organic Vineyard of the Year in 2025. This sweeter Riesling has become a bit of a signature wine for them and the 2025 is another star.
Winery notes (2025 Vintage)
"We, along with many others, believe the Waipara Valley to be a very special place for Riesling. This is a medium style wine – we leave the fruit on the vine longer to develop concentration and a small amount of late harvest character (5% botrytis). This honeycomb flavour is beautifully balanced with fresh citrus characters."
5 Stars & 95/100 Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, September 2025 (2025 Vintage)
"Splendidly fruited and inviting, the bouquet shows apricot, lemon curd, Gala apple, and warm spice aromas. The palate delivers excellent weight and fine focus, beautifully complemented by subtle sweetness and finely infused acidity, making it flavoursome and highly appealing. Style: Medium-dry. Certified organic. At its best: now to 2033."
Rated Excellent & 93/100 Cameron Douglas MS, October 2025 (2025 Vintage)
"A delicious wine with a lovely tease of sweetness as the wine touches the palate, then contrasting acid line showcases a wine of balance and length. Flavours of mandarin and pear, meyer lemon and apple. A super fine lees and chalky fruit tannins add mouthfeel and length. Balanced and ready to enjoy from 2025 through 2032+."
92/100 David Walker Bell, WineFolio.co.nz, December 2025 (2025 Vintage)
"One of a pair of Rieslings from this producer – this one made with a touch of botrytis and residual sugar. The perfume has apricot, lemon, apple, jasmine, cherry cola and the signature mandarin skin character of the region. The ripe fruit flavour is swaddled in that sweetness but lifted by a sharp acidity. A honeycomb note melds with spice and a chalky phenolic to add complexity and depth. Quite playful and energetic as it evolves and opens up, before a finish which is touch drier and has very good length."
