Vineyard of the Year – NZ Organic Wine Awards 2021

This wine is absolutely delicious. The Chapman family's organic vineyard on the Glasnevin gravels of Waipara has had some serious recognition recently and was awarded the Organic Vineyard of the Year in 2021. This sweeter Riesling has become a bit of a signature wine for them and the 2022 is another star.

Winery notes (2022 Vintage)
"Of all the whites grapes Riesling tends to change its character according to the landscape in which it is grown. Therefore, it can be thought of as 'Liquid Geography". This is a sweeter style wine – we leave the fruit on the vine longer to develop concentration and late harvest character (5% botrytis). This honeycomb flavour is beautifully balanced with fresh citrus characters."

5 Stars & 95/100 Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, March 2023 (2022 Vintage)
"Gorgeously fruited and perfumed, the bouquet shows pineapple, grilled peach, orange peel and mixed spice aromas, leading to a wonderfully flavoursome palate offering bright fruit intensity backed by subtle sweetness and juicy acidity. It's elegant yet forthcoming with layers of delicious flavours. Style: Medium. Certified organic. At its best: now to 2034."

5 Stars & 19.0/20 (95) Candice Chow, Raymond Chan Reviews, March 2023 (2022 Vintage)
"Bright, even, pale yellow. Fine effervescent linger on the side of the glass. The nose is softly full and open, with aromas of ripe stonefruit, citrus, white floral, honey and a hint of white spice. Medium-full bodied, medium-dry to taste, aromas of ripe nectarine, apricot intertwined with lemon and honey, unfolding white lily and ginger on the finish. The sweetness broadens the mouthfeel and grows in richness. The wine is crisp with excellent acidity, balancing sweetness and lingering to a refreshing, moreish finish. This complex, well-balanced Riesling packed with interest will evolve with more complexity over the next 10+ years. Match with chicken liver parfait and spicy chicken katsu. Late harvested, 12.5% alc. BioGro organic certified."

Terrace Edge is a (Chapman) family owned and (whole family) operated organic vineyard and olive grove overlooking the Waipara River from its south bank.

Like so many other Waipara Valley growers, grape types have been matched to growing locations that will bring out the best in its qualities, with the 'healthy-soil-first' ethos framing the whole enterprise.

Besides wine, Terrace Edge also grows olives in groves planted by the Chapmans when they converted their property from a sheep farm.

Visitors can book wine and food experiences at the Terrace Edge Tasting Room and take part in a masterclass of wine and food pairing.
