A serious Saint Joseph from granite soils, in a Northern Rhone sub-region much beloved by Tardieu. Their old vine St Joseph (Syrah) is intense but precise, with powerful black and blue fruit with minerals offering a vibrant and complex food accompaniment. Another great example from an increasingly valued spot, this will decant now or cellar for a good few years.

"Salty and dark, with red fruit–flecked details of roasted spices, meat and ganache alongside savoury tones of leather, singed dry herbs and star anise. A brush of toasty cedar is deftly managed, and there’s a touch of chewiness to the saline, tangy finish, focused and firm, held in place by a spine of solid iron."
