Squawking Magpie SQM is a super premium label from the Gimblett Gravels. Highly rated, from one of Hawkes' Bay's best vintages. Perfectly cellared at the winery, these will cellar for many more years. These wines rank alongside the very best from Hawkes Bay.

Winery notes (2016 Vintage)
"Our alluvial gravel vineyard provides the ideal environment for Cabernet Sauvignon to thrive. The SQM range is only produced in years we can fully ripen the fruit to optimum quality. Using only the best french oak delivers a wine that is rich and round with wild blackberry, cassis and mocha flavours. Cellar up to 2035."

93/100 Andrew Caillard MW (2016 Vintage)
"Medium deep colour. Dark chocolate, carob, dark fruit aromas with some vanilla mocha notes. Well concentrated and inky with deep set dark chocolate, blackberry, black olive, cola flavours, chocolatey tannins and mocha oak complexity."

Rated Outstanding & 97/100 Cameron Douglas MS, July 2021 (2014 Vintage)
"Made with the two Cabernets and Merlot aromas reveal a focused and concentrated complexity with a core of fresh and baked black fleshed fruits, violets and sweet new wood scents. On the palate there’s an equal and powerful concentration of fruit surrounded by an abundance finely polished tannins, vibrant sweet acidity and layers of smoky oak, gravelly earthy qualities and long complex finish. This is a young wine still with plenty of development time ahead. If drinking before 2024 then decant and service with food. Ideal drinking from 2026 through 2034+."

5 Stars Michael Cooper (2014 Vintage)
"The 2014 vintage is dark and refined, in a Bordeaux-like style, with concentrated, ripe blackcurrant, plum, spice and nut flavours. Still youthful, it’s crying out for cellaring; best drinking 2020+."

5 Stars & 96/100 Bob Campbell MW, The Real Review, August 2021 (2014 Vintage)
"A youthful wine from a top Gimblett Gravels vintage. Moderately intense with blackcurrant, cassis, blackberry, cedar and spicy oak flavours. A vibrant, high-energy wine, with a mellow texture that makes it quite accessible. It has serious cellaring potential."
