Winery notes (2022 Vintage)
"Pale gold in the glass with initial aromas of lime, mandarin, peach and aromatic lily with a subtle herbal undercurrent reminiscent of aniseed. Complex and very youthful. An energetic and extremely youthful palate that shows delicate acidity balanced by an intriguing grip on the finish. Great drinking upon release but will reward those who leave it under the stairs for several years.
This established north facing vineyard receives all day sun, and coupled with cool Marlborough nights, makes for ideal cool climate growing conditions for our Riesling fruit. The free draining, deep alluvial silt loam soil profile, overlying a clay sub soil, means that very little irrigation is required, even in dry years. Ashmore Vineyard was planted in 1997 with conversion to organics beginning in 2009, and full certification achieved in 2012. Riesling fruit from this vineyard offers a vibrant aromatic, citrus profile, with notes of red apple, melon and fresh herbs.
Hand-picked and whole bunch pressed slowly to tank. Settling for 3 days before racking to tank for ferment. This wine was inoculated and went through a cool ferment before ageing in tank for one year prior to bottling."

"Aromas and flavours of lime and lime skin, white peach and mineralised wet stone ideas. There’s a lick of kerosine then a rush of white flowers and apple. Off-dry in an Auslese style with a contrasting backbone of acidity with core fruit and mineral flavours punching through with ease. Well made, an exciting expression with best drinking from day of purchase through 2033+."

"The 2022 Ashmore Vineyard Riesling leads with a gentle sway of savoury reduction, crushed rocks and river stones, white spice, shaved fennel and star anise, with licorice, lychee, pear and lemon pith. In the mouth, the wine is light, sweet, airy and layered, with good length and complexity. The fruit is from the Ashmore vineyard, planted in 1997 in the Wausau Valley in Marlborough. The vineyard is planted on free draining silty loam over clay and pruned to VSP (vertical shoot positioning) two canes, and this was handpicked and bottled filtered but unfined."
