Rapaura Springs produce some of Marlborough's tastiest Sauvignon Blancs. The Rohe label showcases Marlborough's sub-regions, this one Rapaura, considered the home of Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc. So unsurprisingly this delivers all the classic flavours – greenfruits, herb, gooseberry along with some tropical notes and a morish palate.
Winery notes (2024 Vintage)
"The Rapaura sub-region is one of the oldest and most recognised sub-regions of Marlborough, formed on the floodplain of the Wairau River. Our vineyards are located in the eastern part of Rapaura, with deep, even, fertile soils which grow strong vines that can be dry-farmed.
Vibrant aromas of black and white currant follow through to the palate with a layer of stone fruit and refreshing acidity. This wine is immediately appealing but will continue to evolve over the next five years."
DWWA Judges' Comments (2024 Vintage)
"An unmistakable passion fruit, lime flower, angelica and basil fragrance wafts liberally over the nose and sinks into the steely, mineral palate. Long and salivating."
IWC Judges' Comments (2024 Vintage)
"Lovely tropical notes of passion fruit and pineapple on a lively fresh palate. A true classic style with balance and a beautiful refreshing finish."
92/100 David Walker Bell, WineFolio.co.nz, March 2025 (2024 Vintage)
"This family of wines from Rapaura Springs have newly re-designed golden labels for the 2024 vintage. The word ‘ROHE’ means territory, and the range showcases Marlborough’s sub-regions. Probably the best recognised of those, this Rapaura wine occupies the more familiar Marlborough Sauvignon ‘typicity’ section of the taste spectrum. Gooseberry is an unusual identifier, as not that many people may have actually tried one – but I had them growing in the garden when I was young, and it is the signature flavour here. Also in the scent is passionfruit, blackcurrant, box wood, chamomile and lemon. A crisp acidity highlights the fruit and there is some weight through the palate. A touch of savoury and mineral shows in a peppery, stony layer before a mouth-watering, well-balanced finish."
90/100 Cameron Douglas MS, February 2025 (2024 Vintage)
"Bright, fresh and enticing bouquet with lemon and green apple scents framed by passionfruit and gooseberry ideas. Crisp and just dry with a satin touch, a fresh acid line and stony soil suggestions. A mix of herb and fresh citrus, plenty of passionfruit and green apple flavours. Balance and well made with best drinking from 2025 through 2027+."
