Gold Medal – Royal Easter Wine Show Awards 2018

We are continually impressed by the quality and value of the Rapaura Springs Reserve wines and sell a lot of the Reserve Sauvignon Blanc. This Pinot Gris is right up there with the sauvignon in quality and style. A mix of fermentation vessels and different yeasts has built texture into the wine and added a whole lot of character to the core of concentrated fruit. Mouth filling, rich, and excellent drinking.

Winery notes (2017 Vintage)
"The Rapaura Reserve Pinot Gris represents the finest quality from Marlborough. The 2017 Reserve Pinot Gris has concentrated white peach and pear drop aromas, combined with spiced cinnamon, fresh pastry and apple strudel notes.  Fleshy and full of tropical melon fruits, crisp pear and yellow peach with a zingy line of grapefruit that carries through on the palate."

5 Stars & 93/100 Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, July 2018 (2017 Vintage)
"A fabulous expression of the variety; the inviting bouquet shows nectarine, rockmelon, fresh pear and jasmine characters, followed by a succulent palate that is fleshy and flowing. The wine offers gorgeous fruit vibrancy and refreshing acidity, leading to a persistent silky finish. At its best: now to 2019. "

4 Stars & 18.0/20 Raymond Chan, July 2018 (2017 Vintage)
"Bright, pale straw-yellow colour, lighter on the rim. The nose is fresh with gently full aromas of yellow stonefruits along with nuances of exotic florals and a hint of honeysuckle, along with savoury, minerally lees elements. Dryish to taste and medium-bodied, the palate has a lively core with good richness of yellow stonefruits entwined with florals and honeysuckle, and a subtle layering of savoury minerally lees. The wine flows along a fine-textured line and the mouthfeel is vibrant and refreshing with crisp acidity. The flavours carry with good linearity to a lingering, elegant finish. This is a refreshing and lively dryish Pinot Gris with stonefruit, floral and honeysuckle notes complexed by savoury lees. Match with Asian and Middle Eastern fare over the next 3 years. Marlborough fruit, 65% Awatere Valley and 35% Wairau Valley, fermented in stainless-steel with 10% in barrel to 13.0% alc. and 7.2 g/L RS, the wine given 6-8 weeks aging on lees with batonnage."

91/100 Decanter UK, September 2018 (2017 Vintage)
"With juicy pear fruit, this is fresh, clean and focused, with a purity of touch to its creamy flavours. There's a depth and sincerity that prevails here. A slight spritz, which is welcome. Drink 2018-2020."

90/100 Jamie Goode, August 2018 (2017 Vintage)
"Dry, textured, quite fresh and grapey with a bit of spiciness. Nicely focused with bright citrus fruit. Has nice spicy detail."
