Winery notes (2023 Vintage)
"Planted between 2000-2002 at 11,111 vines/ha and farmed biodynamically from inception. A beautiful, very steep, north-facing block. Coarse, shallow soils that enhance the aromatics; 20% clay, 3-7% active lime.
Carefully hand sorted, fully destemmed and fermented with wild yeasts using infusion methods for 25 days. Settled in tank before being transferred to French wooden barrels. Elevage of 18 months, then bottled unfined and unfiltered.
Bright ruby hue. Expressive floral nose of rose petals, dried herbs and summer berries, gravelly savouriness, the complexity leaps out of the glass. A finely detailed palate that is mineral and savoury, and a hint of iodine, with flavours of berry compote and fresh sour cherries. A fine, grainy structure and an understated power drives the wine, resulting in a long, subtle finish."
94/100 Rebecca Gibb MW (2023 Vintage)
"The 2023 Pinot Noir Angel Flower is dense yet elegant, with the natural tension of its site restraining its fullness to maintain focus and poise. The 2023 offers an understated nose, concentrated flavors of red cherry and rhubarb and resonant woody herbs on the long, sinewy finish. Light, chalky tannins and fresh acidity meet to provide texture and pull in this soulful New Zealand Pinot."

"Light garnet. Aromas of raspberries and sour cherries meld with flowers and a hint of meatiness. Wonderfully supple, gauzy tannins wend their way around a flowing stream of raspberry, sour cherry and candied redcurrant, as fresh wildflowers and aromatic herbs waft on the breeze. Gorgeous texture, fantastic acidity and great length, with an aromatic sweetness that can’t help but make you smile. Incredibly sensual and alluring, and rather shockingly delicious."
96/100 Mike Bennie, The Wine Front, September 2024 (2022 Vintage)
"It feels open weave and pretty with rose hip tea, alpine herbal elements, faint game meat, undergrowth and toasty spice strewn around the place. It slips into every corner of the palate, an attractive, sour-sweet flow of tart cherry dressed up with those savoury elements all sheathed in a web of ultra fine, silty, lacy tannin. It finishes with black tea and truffle and a building, drying, refreshing pucker. Fine, elegant, vibrant and energetic. A triumph for the variety."
