Producer of the Year – Susie & Peter New Zealand Wines of the Year 2026
Pegasus Bay are no strangers to glowing praise, but they are particularly chuffed about a recent accolade they received being named PRODUCER OF THE YEAR in Susie & Peters NZ WINES OF THE YEAR 2026.
For those of you that don’t know Susie & Peter, they are both UK based MW’s and have a very popular podcast called Wine Blast. They tasted through over 200 wines from NZ’s best producers to assemble the list. See the list here.
Pegasus Bay Riesling is arguably the wine that put Waipara on the map. It's a classic and always delivers. Perfect at anytime of the day – it just makes you feel good.
Winery notes (2025 Vintage)
"Shimmering pale gold, the nose is full, with lush aromas of citrus blossom, elderflower and green apple, meshed with flecks of quince, kumquat, lime sherbet, and faint mineral undertones. Equally vibrant on the palate, the opulent mouthfeel is packed with bright flavours and youthful energy. Unobtrusive sweetness is balanced by invigorating acidity, adding precision and a delightful tension on the long, moreish close."
94/100 David Walker Bell, WineFolio.co.nz, January 2026 (2025 Vintage)
"One of a few expressions of the varietal from the North Canterbury pioneers. A pale gold colour in the glass, with a voluminous bouquet that floods the senses with notes of green apple, lime, yuzu, cucumber, nougat, lemon, honey and jasmine. A touch of carbon dioxide remains as a spritz on the tongue (in the German fashion) – adding energy and zip to the palate. A fine balance between tangy acidity and plushness from the fruit ripeness. Sitting at a level of mid-20s for residual sugar, it does seem more generous, with an unctuous richness and slightly waxy texture adding up to a wine that has depth, spine and brightness in equal parts. There’s usually a mineral edge to the wines from this producer, and the back of the palate shows that here, with a chalkiness and bite to the finish."
5 Stars Michael Cooper, March 2026 (2025 Vintage)
"Classy stuff. Estate-grown at Waipara, in top vintages it is richly fragrant and intense, with flavours of citrus fruits and honey, complex and luscious. … The youthful, bright, light lemon/green 2025 vintage is mouthfilling and vibrantly fruity, with a strong surge of ripe, peachy and citrusy flavours, a slightly honeyed richness, gentle sweetness and a crisp, tightly structured finish. Full of personality, it should mature gracefully for many years."
Rated Excellent & 94/100 Cameron Douglas MS, February 2026 (2025 Vintage)
"Aromas of honeyed peaches, lime skin and makrut leaf. There’s no mistaking the bite of acidity and apple citrus flavours as the wine touches the palate, a backbone of acidity drives these throughout the palate leaving behind flavours of honeysuckle and peach, lemon verbena and granny-smith apples. Lengthy, refreshing, salivating and delightful. An excellent aperitif wine with best drinking from day of purchase through 2034+."
