Producer of the Year – Susie & Peter New Zealand Wines of the Year 2026
Pegasus Bay are no strangers to glowing praise, but they are particularly chuffed about a recent accolade they received being named PRODUCER OF THE YEAR in Susie & Peters NZ WINES OF THE YEAR 2026.
For those of you that don’t know Susie & Peter, they are both UK based MW’s and have a very popular podcast called Wine Blast. They tasted through over 200 wines from NZ’s best producers to assemble the list. See the list here.
Winery notes (2020 Vintage)
"We use the traditional French variety of Muscat (Muscat à petit grain). There are very few rows in our vineyard, so only a small volume of this wine has been made. After picking, the grapes were gently pressed, with only the free run juice being used. The wine was tank fermented to preserve varietal integrity, and slowly matured over four months, until a perfect balance was achieved. Prior to release, the wine was left to age in bottle for several years, allowing it to integrate further.
It has a radiant lemon hue and flaunts luscious aromatics. Richly fruited and enticing, the nose projects white fleshed peach, apricot, and lemon curd, underlain with elderflower, linden blossom, honeysuckle, and spicy hints of ginger and nutmeg. Full-bodied on the palate with fruit, alcohol and ripe phenolics all contributing to mouthfeel and flair. Its off dry style is beautifully balanced by crisp acidity, an elegant structure, and a bittersweet touch on the close."
Rated Excellent & 93/100 Cameron Douglas MS, April 2026 (2020 Vintage)
"Fantastic bouquet filled with a ripe and vibrant fruit core, a quiver of energy and style. Aromas of aromatic white peach and nectarine, apples and spiced pears, candy and clove. An off-dry expression with an immediately contrasting acid line and spritz tickle. Flavours of white fleshed fruit and some citrus dominate adding length and deliciousness. Best drinking from day of purchase through 2032. Chill well for service, a delicious aperitif style."
