Gold Medal – New Zealand International Wine Show 2025
Nga Waka is on a bit of a roll with their current offerings, with many of you becoming fans of their impressive Pinot Noirs. So, we thought we would give their Chardonnay a look, and boy, are we glad we did!
A new winemaking team, outstanding fruit from a top vintage and vine age have combined to produce a pretty tasty bottle of Martinborough Chardonnay that has everything in all the right places. Picking up a Gold at last year's NZIWS confirms the quality on offer here.
What stands out here is the judicious use of oak quality new oak that really carriers the perfectly ripe fruit that the vintage had to offer. Plenty on offer here to keep Chardonnay fans happy at this $25 price point.
Winery notes (2024 Vintage)
"Our Nga Waka Chardonnay is 100% barrel fermented in tight-grain French oak barriques, 20% of which are new. The wine spends 10 months in barrel and is lees-stirred monthly.
A rich, complex Martinborough Chardonnay showing intense ripe stone fruit flavours underpinned by subtle spicy and barrel fermentation characters, enhanced by a silky palate texture and a elegant lingering finish."
