Winery notes (2023 Vintage)
"Aromas of dark cherry, red fruits, spice and savoury earthiness. Palate Concentrated and complex flavours with a structure of fine tannins and great length. Drinking well now and up to 2030. Match with game, red meat and rich, robust vegetable based dishes.
The grapes from which this wine was made were grown on Mount Riley’s Cromarty vineyard located in the Southern Valley’s subregion with soils composed of older glaciated clays. Made from clones 777 and 115 the wine blended create what we consider to be the finest attributes Pinot Noir has to offer. Grapes were handpicked cold soaked and fermented using indigenous yeast from Mount Riley’s winery and vineyard with a portion fermented as whole clusters. The wine was then aged for ten months in a mixture of new and seasoned French barrels."
90/100 Erin Larkin, RobertParker.com, February 2025 (2023 Vintage)
"The 2023 17 Valley Pinot Noir leads with a sumptuous display of strawberries, sumac, cherries, pomegranate pearls and red licorice. In the mouth, the wine is punctuated by very bright acidity, which feels a little pert/spiky initially. The fruit however is plush and lovely, contained within the bounds of a fresh picking window and boosted by the presence of pliable tannins through the finish. I like it. It's a lovely wine, almost silky."

"A dark and almost opaque purple-red, this fruit-forward wine has lots of dark fruit aromas and perfumed oak on the nose. Big and rich, the palate is loaded with concentrated cherries and currants alongside smoky oak, dried herbs and spice."
Rated Excellent, 5 Stars & 93/100 NZ Wine Rater (2021 Vintage)
"Deep crimson colour. Bold, opulent, modern, fruit-forward nose with brooding aromas of crushed blackberries, blueberries, boysenberries, dark chocolate, coffee and lashings of creamy oak. A big, plump, rounded wine with intense dark berry flavours, lots of toasty, vanilla oak and layers of pillowy, chewy tannin with a succulent finish."
