A beautiful Barolo in a textural style. This Massolino is a powerful wine with beautiful depth, a fine structure and real finesse. Delivering harmony with charisma in the relatively masculine style of this area, Massolino commands and transports the palate. Will age well, but its balance and generosity will make it decantable now with some rich red meat. Supreme!
94+/100 Gary Walsh, The Wine Front, August 2025 (2021 Vintage)
"Red fruits, aniseed, potpourri, subtle sweet spice. Medium-bodied, svelte with supple fine grained tannin, a vibrance and succulence to fruit, powdery finish of excellent length. Beautiful wine. Will age so nicely, yet kind of approachable now too. A bet each way."
94/100 Monica Larner, RobertParker.com, Wine Advocate (2021 Vintage)
"The Massolino 2021 Barolo reveals a shiny ruby colour and a core of dark fruit. Beyond the plummy fruit is tar, licorice, pressed flower and campfire ash. This wine has a pronounced savoury side, yet it all fits squarely into a very delicate and finessed delivery. This is a pretty example of the vintage. Drink 2026 – 2042."
93/100 Michaela Morris, Decanter UK (2021 Vintage)
“A pristine and precise nose gives an exuberant demonstration of violet, liquorice and wild bramble berries. This fills the mouth with poised concentration and measured vigour. There are no hard edges as suede-textured tannins gracefully enfold the supple fruit. Given Massolino’s relatively new foray into Barbaresco, the family has called on consultant Dante Scaglione to help out. Plots in Starderi, Albesani and Serraboella are assembled before fermentation in order to amalgamate better." Drink 2025 – 2031
93/100 Kerin O’Keefe, January 2025 (2021 Vintage)
“The 2021 Barolo from Massolino is a lovely wine. It opens with heady aromas of dog rose, wild red berry and whiffs of botanical herb and new leather. On the elegant, savoury palate, taut, fine-grained tannins accompany ripe Morello cherry, star anise and orange peel that give it a tangy finish. Drink 2029 – 2036."
