Like all the other Main Divide wines, this over delivers on the flavour, quality and value fronts to offer excellent drinking at a fantastic price. Lusciously off dry with a richness, concentration of flavour, and complexity that could only come from Pegasus Bay. Aromas and flavours of ripe pear and spice, judicious residual sugar, added texture from barrel fermentation and lees aging, and a mineral freshness keeping it all in balance are rare attributes in a Pinot Gris at this price. Embrace and enjoy!
Winery notes (2020 Vintage)
"Settled weather over flowering provided a healthy fruit set, which was then thinned back to desired levels. The ensuing summer was dry with very little rain, resulting in perfectly ripened small berries full of intense flavour and concentration. Thankfully, our harvest was able to proceed during the C-19 lockdown, and an unbroken autumn full of warm days meant each variety was picked at its optimum ripeness.
Upon release its colour is pale gold. Floral and spiced pear aromas tease the nose, followed by nuances of juicy ripe nectarine, red apple, rock melon, and a hint of perfume. The palate is layered and rich, integrated with bright acidity and fine phenolics. A crisp and zippy mouthfeel is complimented by subtle sweetness, giving balance, and setting the platform for a long, textured finish."
Rated Excellent & 93/100 Cameron Douglas MS, April 2022 (2022 Vintage)
"Aromas and flavours of fresh bosc pear and yellow apple, white spice and exotic flowers, white nectarine and a clay/gravel mineral quality. Satin textures and medium+ acidity, a core of white fleshed fruits with a layer of citrus and phenolic texture. Balanced, fresh, fruity and delicious. A wine for today and next week with best drinking from 2022 through 2028."
4 Stars Michael Cooper (2020 Vintage)
"From Pegasus Bay, this is a consistently good buy. Aiming for a "classic Alsatian style with a North Canterbury twist", the 2020 vintage (4*) was tank-fermented and briefly lees-aged. Pale straw, it is ripely scented and mouthfilling, with generous, ripe, peachy flavours and a slightly sweet, smooth finish. Delicious young."

Rated Excellent, Mark Henderson, ODT, July 2021 (2019 Vintage)
"Attractive nose, wisps of bonfire smoke & struck match backed by ripe stonefruits and honey. Clear intensity of flavour with pear drops, fruit jube, ripe pear and apricot, rich and mouthfilling. A touch of bittersweet apricot kernel deftly balances the fruit sweetness, offering a refreshingly dry close A lot of flavour packed into every glass."
5 Stars & 93/100 Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, February 2021 (2019 Vintage)
"Beautifully fruited and lifted, the bouquet shows summer peach, mango, poached pear and mixed spice aromas, leading to a succulent palate delivering excellent weight and roundness together with creamy mouthfeel. Style: Medium-dry. At its best: now to 2024."
91/100 NZ Wine Rater, March 2021 (2019 Vintage)
"Intense, complex, lifted, quite unusual bouquet with biscuity aromas of chive flower sulphides underpinned by brown honey, talcum powder and rose petals. Big, rich, viscous with noticeable sweetness but plenty of flavour concentration. A generous style."
