Like all the other Main Divide wines, this over delivers on the flavour, quality and value fronts to offer excellent drinking at a fantastic price. Lusciously off dry with a richness, concentration of flavour, and complexity that could only come from Pegasus Bay. Aromas and flavours of ripe pear and spice, judicious residual sugar, added texture from barrel fermentation and lees aging, and a mineral freshness keeping it all in balance are rare attributes in a Pinot Gris at this price. Embrace and enjoy!
Winery notes (2018 Vintage)
"It is deep lemon in colour, with an expansive bouquet filled with aromas of pear drops, feijoa, spice and floral notes. On the palate it is full-bodied and unctuous, with a tangy hint of ginger. The earlier picked fruit adds freshness and satisfying acidity, while the late picked portion and lees ageing have increased the mouth feel and complexity of this wine."
5 Stars & 93/100 Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, August 2019 (2018 Vintage)
"This is superbly ripe and immensely appealing on the nose showing complex aromas of golden peach, ripe apple, poached pear and mixed spice with a touch of flint. The palate delivers succulent fruit intensity and excellent weight, wonderfully supported by subtle sweetness and bright acidity. At its best: now to 2022."
4 Stars Michael Cooper (2018 Vintage)
"From Pegasus Bay, this is a consistently good buy. Tank-fermented and lees-aged, the 2018 vintage is a youthful wine, full-bodied, with good concentration of peachy, slightly spicy, vaguely honeyed flavours, gentle sweetness (10 grams/litre of residual sugar) and balanced acidity. Best drinking mid-2020+."
90/100 Cameron Douglas MS, September 2019 (2018 Vintage)
"Fleshy, ripe, varietal and distinctive bouquet of Gris. Aromas and flavours of apple and candied citrus peel, poached pear in vanilla spice, a light button mushroom note adding a little intrigue. Calm, creamy texture, balanced and mouth-filling on the palate. Flavours of spicy apple and baked pear, medium acidity and weight. Overall a lovely wine ready to enjoy today and through 2021."
Rated Excellent, Mark Henderson, Otago Daily Times, November 2019 (2018 Vintage)
"Pear, gumdrops, a little struck match and burnt toast with a saline hint. Powerfully pear driven, just off-dry palate with hints of spice, gum and a whiff of salted caramel. Shows excellent richness yet also with freshness building as it opens up. A sweet-fruited note hangs on the long finish. Good bang for buck."
