Larmandier-Bernier is a renowned Maison de Champagne located in the Côte de Blancs that biodynamically cultivates its 18 hectares of vineyards, prioritising the preservation of old vines that are cultivated with minimal intervention. Ever the purists, Larmandier-Bernier utilises only indigenous yeasts, separate vinification for each cru, and little to no dosage for an unadulterated expression of terroir in their wines. The wines are vinified in a variety of stainless-steel tanks; large, old, wood foudres; enamel-lined tanks; or smaller Burgundian barrels, depending on each cru and each vintage.
Winery notes (2017 Vintage)
"This plot of Chardonnay has been vinified separately since 1995. It’s a parcel named “Les Barillers”, situated mid-slope in Vertus. This terroir is very particular: delicate, saline and, at the same time, very complex. The balance is already present, so no need for any blending. Chardonnay 100%, a single terroir and a single vintage.
A pure and frank expression of Vertus on a well-oriented, mid-slope plot. Very original thanks to its salinity and complexity. An ideal Champagne to start a meal with; its purity makes it a delicate accompaniment for oysters. A very fine match with truffles. May be drunk now or laid down for 5 to 10 years."
95/100 Mike Bennie, The Wine Front, March 2025 (2017 Vintage)
"This has some concentration and depth, for sure. Slick texture with a core of lime and oyster shell, some fino sherry characters, baked apple, cinnamon spice uplifting, some sour dough notes and preserved lemon. While rich, the acidity is briny and bright, cooling and slips through any generosity to add polish and shine."
93/100 RobertParker.com, Wine Advocate (2017 Vintage)
"The 2017 Brut Nature Blanc de Blancs Terre de Vertus, which derives from two east-facing plots within the same lieu-dit in Les Barillers, located mid-slope, imparts a very mineral, almost crystalline character. A vineyard that rarely produces powerful wines, even in the context of 2017, it has retained its personality, though it’s a little more generous and slightly less focused than the 2016 rendition. Unfurling from the glass with aromas of lemon peel, honeysuckle and oyster shell, it is medium-bodied, racy and saline-tinged."
