Trophy for Champion Shiraz – New Zealand International Wine Show 2024
Trophy for Champion Commerical Red – New Zealand International Wine Show 2024
Double Gold Medal – New Zealand International Wine Show 2024
Judged against many of the big name Shiraz available and coming out the winner, maybe a surprise to some given its price, Kirrihill is a Clare Valley winery that is well known for producing wines that over-deliver on the quality/price front, and this new release 2022 has really nailed it. A fantastic follow-up to previous award-winning wines, this gives plenty of bang for your dollar.
Winery notes (2022 Vintage)
"This 2022 Shiraz entices with abundant aromas of blackberries, raspberries and spice. These characters follow onto the palate, the flavoursome and plush mouthfeel is complemented by elegant notes of oak carrying through to a lingering finish.
Blessed with almost perfect ripening conditions throughout spring and summer, and good rainfall plus cool weather allowed the grapes to ripen in a consistent manner leading to stunning levels of acidity and optimum maturity in the red wines. The wines were pressed into stainless steel tanks to complete the malolactic fermentation. A portion of the wine has been kept in tanks for freshness, whilst the other portion was matured in older French oak for 12 months."
NZIWS Judges' Comments (2022 Vintage)

91/100 Aaron Brasher, The Real Review (2022 Vintage)
"Really inky, dark and opaque in the glass. Lifted aromas of plum, mulberry, earth, cedar and eucalyptus. The palate is dark and juicy, with a core of brooding black fruits, bramble and firm, shapely tannins. The acidity finishes all bright and crunchy in this really smart value for money wine."
