We know how much value can be found amongst Spanish wines and this is one to top them all. An importers 'Overstock Clearance Deal', this is a beautifully mellow and superbly drinkable wine that ticks many boxes, not least the price/quality ratio which is, in our humble opinions, off the scale.

It is the perfect Autumnal red – it tastes of Autumn with mellow, maturing fruit flavours melding with earthy dried herb and spice characters to enjoy over the next couple of years. All you need is a corkscrew.

How you can get a wine of this quality, from hand-harvested fruit from mature vines, aged for 6 months in American and French oak, shipped to New Zealand from the center of Spain with all the freight and taxes, and for us to offer to you for just $13.99, is beyond belief.

Bodega Navarro López is a family-owned estate, originally founded in 1904 by Don Juan Sánchez. Tempranillo grapes are sourced from small growers across the ‘Valdepenas’ region (meaning literally ‘valley of the stones’) The region's climate is arid and strongly continental as the Sierra Morena range to the south of the designation blocks out the Mediterranean's moderating influences. Soils are largely limestone with chalk deposits, originating from ancient geological formations with bands of red clay. The high lime content helps with moisture retention – vital in the hot, dry conditions, where 2,500 hours of scorching sunshine a year are standard. The Jabalon River provides water and air movement through the canopy and altitudes up to 700m provide diurnal variation.

Hand-harvested from mature vines 15-30 years old. Aged 6 months in American and French oak. Vibrant, savoury, spicy red with mellow tannins.

4 ½ stars & 91/100 Sam Kim, Wine Orbit (2020 Vintage)
"Beautifully fruited and complex, the wine shows dark berry, dried herb, smoky bacon and toasted spice aromas on the nose, followed by a finely textured palate offering ripe fruit flavours with savoury nuances, finishing lingering and attractively dry. At its best: now to 2026."

89/100 Bob Campbell MW, The Real Review (2020 Vintage)
"Full-flavoured, gutsy tempranillo with typical plum, berry, tobacco leaf and a suggestion of violet. More vinous than fruity with a pleasing rustic character. Approachable now – drink up!"
