Henschke Henrys Seven shiraz, grenache, mataro, viognier blend is a tribute to Henry Evans who planted the first vineyard of seven acres at Keyneton in 1853. This blend highlights the historical introduction of southern French and Spanish varieties to South Australia in those early pioneering days and reflects the history, religion and culture of the Barossa.
Winery notes (2024 Vintage)
"Crimson with violet hues. Captivating aromas of blueberry, mulberry, raspberry and satsuma plum, with notes of violet, lavender, mace, bay leaf and sage. The palate is rich and elegant, with fresh red and blue fruits interlaced with savoury spice, clove, white pepper and cedar, offering generous depth and well-integrated fine tannins that carry through to a long finish."

"A classic Rhone-style blend painted in Barossa colours: 53% Barossa Valley and 47% Eden Valley fruit with Shiraz leading the way (76%) plus 1% co-fermented Viognier, followed by Grenache (16%), Mataro (7%). Garnet in the glass, fragrant with blueish petals, violet to the fore, as well as crushed, fresh kitchen herbs and a distant note of freshly sawn timber; there’s only 10 months of 10% new French oak in the maturation which is plenty for this wine. Styled in the crunchy, juicy, red berry flavour spectrum, crimson plums between tart and softly ripe leading the fruit, bay and sage adding their herbal edge, the palate still has decent grip in the finish to suggest its capacity for excellent matching with anything juicy and red from the barbecue."
93/100 Erin Larkin, Robert Parker.com, Wine Advocate, September 2025 (2024 Vintage)
"The 2024 Henry's Seven is loaded with cherry and pomegranate, cracked black peppercorns and dark chocolate. The wine has a real silkiness about it on the palate, with tapenade, hung deli meat and lashings of exotic spice. The wine is growing in stature with time in the glass, and the flavours linger most favorably once the wine has gone."
