Selected for the 2020 Fine Wines of New Zealand List
Local heroes and star North Canterbury winery Greystone consistently produce one of New Zealand's very best Pinot Gris.
Winery notes (2019 Vintage)
"A Pinot Gris with generous richness, flavor concentration and length. The acidity is balanced perfectly with a slight sweetness. Drinking beautifully now or cellar up to five years.
We pressed the Pinot Gris slowly over 4 hours before a light settle. We fermented both blocks together at cool temperatures through to a balanced off-dry style. Entirely tank fermented with five months on full yeast lees without stirring. Estate bottled without fining."
93/100 Bob Campbell MW, The Real Review (2019 Vintage)
"Flavoursome pinot gris with a tint of straw colour suggesting extended skin contact, although the texture is reasonably silky. An attractive wine with pear, apple, clove and spice flavours. Made in an off-dry style."
93/100 Cameron Douglas MS, January 2020 (2019 Vintage)
"Very attractive bouquet with mineral and white spice, a core of apple, pear and sweet quince. Tense, crisp, fruity and dry with flavours of crushed minerals (quartz) stones, white fleshed tree fruits and citrus juice. Plenty of acidity, generous on the alcohol, a whisper of residual sugar and a lengthy finish. Another great example from the Greystone stable. Drink now and through 2021."

5 Stars Michael Cooper (2018 Vintage)
"At its best, this is one of the finest Pinot Gris in the country. Estate-grown, it is mostly handled in tanks; a small portion of the blend (5 per cent in 2018) is fermented with indigenous yeasts in old French oak casks. Already delicious, the 2018 vintage is a pale straw, sturdy (14.5 per cent alcohol), powerful wine, with highly concentrated stone-fruit flavours, a vague hint of honey, and excellent complexity and harmony. Made in a medium-dry style (12 grams/litre of residual sugar), it's certified organic."
