Gold Medal – Barossa Wine Show 2024
Grant Burge Filsell has long been a top pick of Shiraz here at Vino Fino from both our point of view and that of our customers. With vines now over 100-years-old, Grant Burge's Filsell vineyard is considered one of the best in the Barossa Valley and it consistently produces fruit of great intensity and concentration. It certainly has again for the 2022.
Winery notes (2022 Vintage)
"Hugely floral with some instant violet lift with Red and black cherry with blackberry some cola berry leading in to some sweet vanilla and cinnamon. Sweet fruit entry with lashings of fruit, sweet vanilla spice and milk chocolate. The fruit wraps around the chocolate and spice resulting in a beautifully textured the wine has a rich and balanced feel with fine silky tannins that linger for some time. The finish persists well after the wine is consumed."
5 Stars & 96/100 Huon Hooke, The Real Review, August 2024 (2022 Vintage)
"This wine earns One Merit in The Real Review Wine Classification of Australia, and the 2022 is the highest rated vintage of Filsell to date. The vineyard turned 100 in 2021. Very deep, dark, concentrated colour, opaque; there’s concentrated black fruits, spice and licorice aromas with generous charred oak skilfully entwined. The wine is full-bodied and rich, deep and powerful, and promises to cellar superbly."
5 Stars & 95/100 Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, April 2024 (2022 Vintage)
"Gorgeously fruited and enticing, the bouquet shows black/blueberry, rich floral, warm spice, cedar and subtle cocoa notes, leading to a sumptuous palate delivering terrific fruit richness with velvety texture, finishing impressively long and satisfying. At its best: 2026 to 2040."
95/100 Ray Jordan, WinePilot.com (2022 Vintage)
"This is pure Barossa shiraz. Colour is dense and dark with faint crimson hues. Earthy plum aromas with a little liquorice and brick dust. Plenty of weight on the palate which is supported with well managed oak. Has a slightly grainy texture providing a nice mouthfeel."
4 Stars Cuisine Australian Shiraz Tasting, July 2025 (2022 Vintage)
"Youthful and opaquely dark in colour, as per its name, this wine is unapologetically big. Sweet fruits flavours on the palate are matched by big, yet plush tannins and a hint of smoky reduction. The finish is long, warming and dense."
