Airaz is another standout Spanish import from Master of Wine Steve Bennett—a rich, satisfying blend of Tempranillo, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Garnacha, crafted from a truly exceptional site in Aragón.
Named after the wind that sweeps through its high-altitude vineyards (550–650m), Airaz benefits from dramatic diurnal temperature shifts that preserve the wine’s freshness and finesse. The nearby Huerva River shapes its distinctive terroir, with pudding stone and calcium-rich clay soils that impart vibrancy and depth.
Certified organic and produced by Finca Aylés, Airaz proudly holds Spain’s highest wine classification: Vino de Pago – the equivalent of France’s Grand Cru. Finca Aylés is not only the sole Vino de Pago in Aragón but one of just twenty estates across Spain to earn this elite designation.
Winery notes (2022 Vintage)
"Cherry colour, bright, medium-high intensity. Very expressive on the nose, showing aromas of ripe red and black fruits (blackberries and raspberries) with notes of cloves and vanilla. On the palate, it is powerful and meaty, with refreshing acidity and a long and charming aftertaste."
5 Stars & 94/100 Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, April 2025 (2022 Vintage)
"A gorgeous rendition; the enticing fragrant bouquet shows dark plum, spiced cherry, star anise, cured meat, and assorted nut aromas. The palate displays terrific weight and plump mouthfeel, delivering plush texture backed by beautifully melded tannins, finishing superbly long and complex. At its best: now to 2032."
91/100 Cameron Douglas MS (2022 Vintage)
"Great colour and aromatic intensity. Scents of dark fruits from black berry to black currant, roasted Doris plums and savoury dried spices from clove to licorice. Earthy too and with some wood smoke aromas the bouquet has complexity and allure. A lovely wine on the palate, plenty of fruit flavours, dark spice and earthy qualities to reflect the bouquet. War, too with some alcohol noted, the acidity carries all the flavours adding some tension and poise through the palate. Well made, dry and ready to drink from 2024 through 2030."
