Trophy for Champion International Red Wine – New Zealand International Wine Show 2025
Double Gold Medal – New Zealand International Wine Show 2025
If you love Montepulciano, here's a real treat for you! This takes the often somewhat ubiquitous Montepulciano to new levels. Intense dark fruits fill the mouth with licorice, dried herb, spice and florals in the background. There's some chewy tannin amongst the overall richness and a wonderful earthiness through the long finish.
Winery notes (2024 Vintage)
"The origin of this grape has always been uncertain. Cultivated mainly in Abruzzo and the other regions of centre-south Italy. Today, thanks to the passion of some producers and winemakers, Montepulciano d’Abruzzo has emerged to the international limelight as one of the best quality red grapes in world.
This wine has a ruby red colour with garnet reflections. Intense, persistent, fruity and flowery fragrance with hints of cherry, blackberries, ripe red fruits. Well-bodied, tannic and well balanced."
Judges' Comments – NZIWS 2025 (2024 Vintage)
"Aromas and flavours include rose petals and violets, juicy raspberry, black plums, fine chalky tannins with a touch of mocha. A rich and plush Italian red."
