Winery notes (2021 Vintage)
"Our STONE vineyard is composed of gravel and silt layers originally formed after a great flood of the Ngaruroro river in 1867. The river stones absorbs and radiate heat on the vines to create concentrated, structured, bold, ageworthy wines."

"Offering stunning fruit purity and perfume, the bouquet shows Black Doris plum, blueberry, clove and elegant oak notes, leading to a concentrated palate that’s succulent and finely textured. Wonderfully harmonious and structured with grainy tannins, making it bold and robust. At its best: now to 2037."

"A lovely bouquet, plenty of pure fruited scents of dark berries and fresh black currant, soft violets and spice. There’s a layer of wood and baking spice highlights with an earthy dry stone quality adding complexity as well as depth. A dry textured wine with fine tannins and core red fruit flavours driving the palate experiences. Taut and youthful with a mix of violets and red berries, a complete wine with a further development while resting in your cellar. Best drinking from early 2025 through 2032+."

"Deep, full, ruby-red, slightly lighter on the rim. This has a rich bouquet with aromas of black plum, blackberry, violet, liquorice, smoky minerals and tapenade. Full-bodied, aromas of black plum and blackberry entwined with violet, liquorice, black pepper, tapenade and smoky minerals. The fruit is bright with excellent lively acidity, enriched by firm, ripe tannins, unfolding smoky, rich, herbaceous, savoury elements. Broody and enticing aromas carry to a long, structured closing. This Stone Syrah is seductive, detailed and well-structured, possesses savoury, dark, rich mineral details and shows a sense of place. Match with wild boar and lamb leg roast over the next 15 years. 100% Syrah from Gimblett Gravels, handpicked.
