97/100 Luca Maroni – Leading Italian Wine Critic
We heard about this wine when we saw it included in the UK Wine Merchant's Top 100 wines for 2025, and, intrigued, set about getting some into New Zealand. Our friendly Italian wine importer, Marco Nordio sourced some for us and now, finally, a few months later it has arrived,
This is the note from the UK Merchant that got us interested. "This hearty Italian red is an absolute blinder and one that is sure to be hit with our customers. It’s a blend of 60% Sangiovese, 20% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon and to get a Tuscan red of this quality, at this price, is really hard to come by. And we mean hen’s teeth rarity." Spot on.
When tasted blind (no pun intended) everybody agreed it was stunning and put it around the $40 mark. Medium bodied with loads of ripe red and black cherry, raspberry & blackberry flavours. Sweet spices, a touch of vanilla and beautifully integrated soft tannins. The acidity is typically Italian and is nicely fresh & lively. The perfect red for anything tomato based.
Leggermente Appassite = Lightly dried grapes
