Villa Argiano lay claim to being the oldest wine estate in Montalcino, located below Saint'Angelo in Colle, some 8km from the famous wine town. Built in 1581 the Villa passed through many sets of hands over the centuries and in 1992, the current owner Noemi Marone Cinzano purchased the property. In the past the renown consultant, Giacomo Tachis, the man behind Sassacaia, was involved in the project and the Bordeaux varieties were planted but today Bordeaux-trained winemaker Hans Vinding-Diers holds the reins.
Winery notes (2021 Vintage)
"Fruity notes with a touch of oak. Medium-bodied, savory mouthfeel with characteristic red fruits and underbrush notes. Quite persistent with a nice freshness that marries well with medium tannin."
91/100 James Suckling (2021 Vintage)
"Some wet herbs to the peppery berries and cherries. The juicy, medium-bodied palate is coated with fine, even tannins. Good, medium-long finish to close with a peppery edge at the end."
91/100 Falstaff.com, October 2023 (2021 Vintage)
"Dark ruby red colour with a purple hue. Compact nose, nuances of ripe plum, coffee and dark chocolate. Powerful and juicy on the palate, builds subtle drive, refreshing acidity and ripe tannins, medium-long finish, slightly grippy on the finish."
