Domaine Thomson was the vision of David Hall-Jones and his wife PM (short for Pui Mun) and encompasses the wine operations in the northern and southern hemispheres.
In 2000 they established a 14 ha vineyard at Lowburn, Central Otago. They also owned a property in Burgundy and in 2013 became the first New Zealanders to own a vineyard in Burgundy.
Today the original vision holds firm. PM and her family continue the path she and David began together — one vision, across two hemispheres — crafting wine that reflects the nuances of the terroir and the diversity of the vineyards.

"Our flagship Pinot Noir, sourced primarily from our southern block. It carries the name of Surveyor – John Turnbull Thomson linking both the land and its fruits to the vineyard owners, PM and David Hall-Jones family heritage.
Dark ruby in the glass, the 2023 Surveyor Thomson Pinot Noir opens with lifted aromas of red and dark berries, layered with subtle earthy and mineral nuances. The palate is finely textured, with chalky tannins and poised acidity carrying the rich, layered fruit to a long, elegant finish. Complex and multi-layered, it is ready to drink now yet built to cellar gracefully."

"Wonderfully composed and styled, the wine shows Black Doris plum, sweet cherry, warm spice, cured meat, mushroom, and toasted almond characters on the nose. The palate exhibits excellent concentration, plush texture and layers of fine tannins, making it wonderfully harmonious and flowing to a persistent, refined finish. At its best: now to 2035."

"Almost everything that might summarise Central Otago in a glass with an attractive bouquet of ripe red berry fruits, a core of savoury complexity and myriad dry spices. Still developing with a youthful loudness and charming tones. Raspberry and black cherry, bracken and clove, sage and thyme with plum and black currant. Dry, firm, taut and youthful with a firm mouthfeel and plenty of acidity for power and to carry the flavours of red berries and dried savoury qualities that reflect the bouquet. Lengthy and well made with best drinking from day of purchase through 2035."
