Selected for the 2023 Appellation Marlborough Wine Collection
Dog Point Sauvignon Blanc always offers something a bit more than the vast majority of Marlborough Sauvignons. There is an extra level of complexity and flavour interest that takes the variety to a different level. This is revealed in the layers of juicy fruit and mouthfilling quality. From the excellent 2023 vintage, this is a standout wine.
Winery notes (2023 Vintage)
"Our version of the classic dry aromatic style of Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc. The citrus core of flavours are juicy and intense with deliciously refreshing saline acidity. The wine calls for simple fresh seafood but can also be enjoyed as a pre-dinner aperitif.
Grapes are picked from eight of our own vineyards within the Wairau Valley. Cropped at an average of 10 tonnes/hectare. The fruit is whole bunch pressed, cold settled before fermentation and 4 months aging in stainless steel tanks. A portion of this wine is fermented using indigenous yeast. Bottled without fining."
5 Stars & 95/100 Bob Campbell MW, The Real Review, September 2023 (2023 Vintage)
"Bright, fresh wine with typical varietal/regional characters including capsicum, gooseberry, lemongrass and passionfruit. Appealing purity with a perfect sweet/sour balance. A pleasure to taste."
5 Stars Michael Cooper, October 2023 (2023 Vintage)
"Certified organic, this classic wine offers a clear style contrast to Section 94, Dog Point's complex, barrel-aged Sauvignon Blanc (see the Branded and Other White Wines section). Estate-grown at several vineyards in the Wairau Valley, it is hand-harvested, fermented and lees-aged in stainless steel tanks, but handled without oak. The thought-provoking 2023 vintage is arguably the best yet. Pale lemon/green, it is full-bodied and vigorous, with penetrating, ripe, passionfruit/lime flavours, showing a distinct touch of complexity, and a dry, long finish. Still unfolding, it should break into full stride mid-2024+."
Rated Excellent & 93/100 Cameron Douglas MS, October 2023 (2023 Vintage)
"Fragrant, ripe, fruity, varietal and captivating bouquet with scents of fresh citrus and apple, lemon and white fleshed orchard fruits, a core of minerality with a stony wet river pebble quality. Delicious on the palate, crisp and dry with a classic backbone of acidity, fresh mountain herbs and fruit flavours that reflect the bouquet. The lengthy finish and textures along with core varietal fruit highlights deliver a wine for all fans of SB. Best drinking from 2024 through end of summer 2027."
19/20 Joelle Thomson, drinksbiz Magazine, February/March 2024 (2023 Vintage)
"This is one of the best Sauvignon Blancs made in New Zealand each year. It has distinctive complex aromas, a medium body and fabulous purity of flavour with tangy lemon adding to the tropical flavours we all know and love in Sauvignon. This wine has more weight, depth, and length than most Sauvignon Blancs and over-delivers, big time."

95/100 & Top Rated 2022 Vintage Sauvignon Blanc, Wine Rater Sauvignon Blanc Tasting, October 2022 (2022 Vintage)
"A complex, multi-dimensional and instantly appealing nose with aromas of limes, grapefruit, crushed sage and positive notes of gunflint and struck-match. An elegant, serious style – dry, taut, and vinous, with a pleasing texture, smokey greengage flavours, zesty acidity and a long, satisfying finish."
17/20 Jancis Robinson MW, February 2023 (2022 Vintage)
"Powerful green-fruit aroma. Really a mass of ripe fruit on the palate – well counterbalanced by acidity. Very bright and energetic with no shortage of interest and nuance on the mid palate. Definitely a superior example of the genre."
93/100 JamesSuckling.com, October 2022 (2022 Vintage)
"Nettles, thyme, green apples and grapefruit on the nose. Medium bodied, sharp and clean cut with a refreshing core of citrus and green fruit. Vivid. From organically grown grapes."
93/100 Stuart Know, The Real Review, October 2023 (2022 Vintage)
"Bright lemon and lime colour. Fragrant nose of gooseberry, fresh cut grass and passionfruit, all of which are in intense abundance on the palate. To match there’s a driving line of searing acidity to ensure focus and persistence. The concentration is remarkable."
