97/100 & Trophy for Best in Show – Decanter World Wine Awards 2025

The 2024 Craggy Range Martinborough Pinot Noir has been awarded 'Best in Show' and an outstanding 97 points at the 2025 Decanter World Wine Awards, an honour achieved by only 50 wines out of more than 16,000 entered from across the globe and the only New Zealand wine to do so.

Now in its 22nd year, the Decanter Wine Awards is recognised as one of the world's largest and most influential wine competitions, trusted globally for its rigorous judging and unrivalled panel of international experts.

This is an incredible achievement for a wine at this price and fantastic recognition for the Martinborough region, where Craggy Range have been producing exceptional wines for over 25 years.

The wine is suave and brooding with concentrated dark fruits in the glass with just the must beautifully fragrant nose full of strawberries and delicious red fruits all framed by a palate with dusty, almost invisible tannins. A triumph in up-front drinkability, this will be impossible to keep your hands off but will reward cellaring for a few years if you manage.

Winery notes (2024 Vintage)
"Ruby red colour with dark magenta hues. Aromas of ripe strawberries, cherries and red liquorice jump from the glass accompanied by hints of dried lavender and blackcurrant. The palate is plush and fruit driven. Flavours of strawberries and red cherries fill the mouth and finish with dusty cocoa powder-like tannin. Immediately drinkable."

DWWA Judges' Comments (2024 Vintage)
"This is an uncompromisingly dark wine that plays to New Zealand’s strengths in terms of purity and vivacity of fruit: raspberry, cherry and plum come streaming from the glass, and the fine meshing of fruit and oak in this wine adds to its lustre and appeal. In the mouth, the wine is both long and broad but not in any way clumsy, and the fruit flavours (raspberry to the fore again) are hypnotic. Svelte tannins are barely palpable, so there’s no textural barrier to entry."

4 ½ Stars & Top 10 Cuisine Pinot Noir Tasting, April 2025 (2024 Vintage)
"There’s an unrivalled depth of colour with juicy yet dark-black fruits on the nose of this very youthful example. The palate is primary and bright with lots of juiciness through the midpalate. Big on structure and presence, while approachable now it will reward with age."
