Winery notes (2023 Vintage)
"Elegant and restrained, the foundation Tiwha reveals a complex aromatic profile of shaded woodland, forest floor, and star anise, lifted by dried rose petal and savoury notes of bay leaf, black olive, and toasted cinnamon spice. Finely grained tannins give quiet structure, shaped by subtle oak and carrying a taut, bramble-edged palate. Flavours of black plum skin and sour cherry are threaded with stony minerality, drawing the wine through to a long, resonant finish. With air, the wine gains breadth and nuance, rewarding time in the glass.

Typically some secondary character profiles will evolve after 3-4 years, while retaining fruit vibrancy. With careful cellaring, flavours will age gracefully into more tertiary and complex characters, around 8-10 years old.

Enjoy with a wide range of food, however this wine matches exceptionally well with game, mushroom and truffle dishes. A broad array of spices can be successfully paired to the wine’s flavours – get creative and best of all, enjoy with good company.

The iconic label is the work of Chris Heaphy, famed New Zealand artist and creator of all the Coal Pit labels."

5 Stars & 96/100 Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, July 2026 (2023 Vintage)
"Complex, seductive, and elegant, the bouquet reveals dark cherry, wild strawberry, bay leaf, cured meat, and toasted almond notes, leading to a finely flowing palate that's beautifully rounded and supple. Wonderfully composed with finesse and poise, leading to a prolonged, finely dry finish. From the Gibbston district. At its best: now to 2035."

Rated Outstanding & 956/100 Cameron Douglas MS, August 2026 (2023 Vintage)
"A taut, dry and poised wine on the palate with flavours of complexity drawn from scents and flavours of red cherries and wild raspberry, there’s a stony firm soil idea and a wild thyme dried herb seam. Complex and detailed both on the nose and palate. A dry wine with medium weight, plenty of texture and tension from the tannins with a chalky feel, the acidity provides backbone and poise as well as carrying the flavours of dark berries and site. Youthful and delicious, poised for more ageing with best drinking from 2029 through 2038+."
