Deep, intense ruby red. Fine, elegant and complex on the nose, with a blend of black fruit and coffee aromas. A very rich attack followed by a quite mature consistency and silky tannins. Fine, precise woody mouth aromas. An exceptional Madiran, powerful and complex, with unusual potential. This wine can very easily be kept for 7 to 10 years.

Since 1927, three generations of winegrowers have succeeded each other at the Château Aydie. The Laplace family has a place in the appellation’s history, holding the title “Owner – Harvester” in AOP Madiran and AOP Pacherenc du Vic Bilh. Today Marie, Jean Luc, François and Bernard Laplace, run the Château d’Aydie and work for the sustainability of the vineyard, as well as to promote the appellation.

Their vineyard extends over 58 hectares and about a dozen cuvees are made every year. The ocean climate and nearby Pyrenées mean winter and spring are both temperate and wet, with a warm summer and a very sunny autumn. These climatic conditions together with the widely diverse terroirs allow us to develop wines with characteristics richly typical of the region. The vineyard consists of 49 hectares in the Madiran AOP from the typical Gascon grape variety, Tannat. The 9 other hectares in AOP Pacherenc du Vic Bilh are made from local grape varieties: Petit Manseng, Gros Manseng, Arrufiac and Petit Courbu.

92/100 Rgoer Voss, Wine Enthusiast (2018 Vintage)
"This wine from Aydie comes from the family-owned estate that developed micro-oxygenation, the technique of softening the wine by blowing bubbles through it at fermentation. This black-fruited wine has ripe berry flavors and dusty tannins. It is structured and juicy at the end."
