A rich and satisfying red from a modern producer in the stunning Ribera Del Duero, Spain. The Flores de Callejo wine comes from vines over 40 years old planted in loamy clay soils. Lying in the highest part of the Douro Valley, between 850 and 930 metres above sea level, this is a privileged enclave. Ripe Tempranillo delivers lashings of dark berries and spice, with a rich body and savoury-tobacco undertones.
Rated by Tim Atkin MW as one of the 'First Growth' Estates of Ribera del Duero. Alongside such icons as Vega Sicilia and Dominio de Pingus. The Callejo family owns 60 hectares of low yielding Tempranillo vines (Tinto Fino as it is known in Ribera del Duero) ranging in age from 25-70 years. Felix Callejo uses grapes from its Estate only. The grapes are carefully selected and hand picked into small cases of 30 pounds. Carried in small quantities, there is no danger of having the grape skins break and sparking an undesired premature fermentation. The crates are taken directly to the winery, where they go through two selection tables, the second one selecting grape by grape and discarding any imperfect grapes.

"An honest, fruity Ribera del Duero that shows freshness, good fluidity and crunch. Red cherries and flowers join medium body, firm tannins and a fruit-expressive finish. Stonier and a little more delicate this year than before. Drink now."
