A rich and satisfying red from a modern producer in the stunning Ribera Del Duero, Spain. Ripe Tempranillo delivers lashings of dark berries and spice, with a rich body and savoury-tobacco undertones. A very complete and satisfying Spanish red, the Flores is a must try.
Right in the heart of the region, in the small town of Sotillo de la Ribera, Felix Callejo founded this bodega in 1989. He had been well primed in the art of vine-growing from his father and grandfather, and his own children are now very much involved in the family tradition of wine-making. They form an enthusiastic and dedicated team, building on the fine reputation that this company maintains both at home and abroad for first-class wines. The Flores de Callejo is attractive, well-defined and very pure, with silky smooth tannins.
The Felix Callejo family has been growing grapes for 4 generations with little changes. Organic grapes are still carefully tended, selected and handpicked. The family owns 60 hectres in Sotillo de la Ribera, the very heart of Ribera del Duero, planted with some of the best vines in the region. The age of the vines range from 25 to 60 years. Yields are limited naturally by the hard continental climate and a poor soil of low fertility. On top of that Jose Felix, the winemaker does an strict green prunning and selection, an average of only 8 bunches are allowed per plant. This sold out very quickly last vintage because it is a lovely, fleshy, fruity styled wine.
