2020 will long be remembered for a multitude of reasons. For winemakers in North Canterbury, it will be remembered as the vintage that almost wasn't… as the country went into lockdown, the wine industry across New Zealand was given the opportunity to operate, albeit with restrictions and the now famous 'bubbles'. It was with great relief that the grapes on the glorious golden vines could be picked as they were the result of one the best vintages the region had seen in recent memory. The resulting wines have been nothing short of outstanding across the board.
The Black Sun is the result of us procuring a boutique, expertly crafted Pinot Noir from one of the regions top producers, our tribute to the challenging, but ultimately rewarding 2020 North Canterbury vintage. It is drinking beautifully now, but will continue to mature gracefully for many years to come, and perhaps become a good conversation starter in the future.
From hand-picked, hand sorted old vine fruit grown in the Waipara Valley of North Canterbury, this was destined for the producer's top label, hence the our own "Reserve" label. 2020 was a warm, late vintage and this shows in the wine. Dark, brooding and savoury – shitake mushroom, meaty, dark fruits, hints of toasted rosemary. On a rich sensual and mouthfilling palate. Complex, harmonious and complete, to enjoy now or for your cellar.
Only one pallet available – This won't last long!
